The Megapharmacy of Wellbeing was inaugurated on December 29, 2023, by the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the municipality of Huehuetoca in the State of Mexico. According to the figures announced by Jens Pedro Lohmann Iturburu, director of the Biological and Reagent Laboratories of Mexico (Birmex), of the 12,541 calls made to the Megapharmacy Service Center, only 67 have been supplied. However, 4,069 calls have been with insufficient information because certain information such as prescription, email, or CURP is not at hand, which is used to verify the caller’s identity.
With a prescription issued by the Social Security, IMSS Bienestar, or ISSSTE doctor and CURP in hand, individuals can fill their medication at the Megapharmacy. To do so, individuals should call the Megapharmacy of Wellbeing phone number: 55 95 00 09 11 and select the appropriate option, according to their IMSS Bienestar or ISSSTE institution. The operator will then require the recipe folio number, name, CURP, contact information, and will verify that the prescription has been issued by a doctor from the IMSS, ISSSTE, or IMSS-Bienestar.
The IMSS, ISSSTE, or IMSS-Bienestar institutes have 3 hours to process the request and the medication must be available within a maximum of 48 hours. Birmex, the company in charge of the place, prepares the delivery plan, from origin to final destination. According to President López Obrador, the Mexican Army will be in charge of distributing the requested medicines and these will arrive in less than 48 hours at the door of the applicant’s home or the medical clinic that treats them. This marks a significant step in improving access to medication for individuals in Mexico.
