Rai Leaders Unaware of Franco Di Mare’s Illness, Deny ‘Service Status’ Request
Yesterday, on the “Che Tempo che fa” program, public television journalist and former Rai Tre director Franco Di Mare made a shocking revelation: he has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, a tumor directly linked to exposure to asbestos. This news came as a surprise to Rai leaders, as CEO Roberto Sergio and general manager Giampaolo Rossi admitted that they were not aware of Di Mare’s illness.
Di Mare, who previously worked as a war correspondent in the Balkans, believes that his exposure to asbestos occurred during his time covering conflicts in the region. He has requested his service record from Rai in order to pinpoint where the suspected exposure may have taken place. However, the company initially denied his request, prompting Di Mare to speak out against their actions.
In response to the backlash, Sergio and Rossi have now pledged to release Di Mare’s service status and support him in his efforts to investigate the cause of his illness. They expressed their sympathy for the journalist and promised to assist him in any way they can.
Di Mare’s lawyer, Elisabetta Iannelli, has affirmed his right to access his service record and determine the occupational nature of his tumor. She highlighted the connection between mesothelioma and asbestos exposure, emphasizing that Inail will be able to evaluate the cause of the disease.
As Di Mare continues to fight his battle with mesothelioma, he remains determined to uncover the truth behind his illness and hold accountable those responsible for his exposure to asbestos.
