Ramon Fernandez Alvarez appointed Head of Pulmonology Section at Central University Hospital of Asturias

The Management of Health Area IV of the Health Service of the Principality of Asturias (Sespa) officially announced the appointment of Ramon Fernandez Alvarez as head of the Pulmonology Section of the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA). The resolution was published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) and specifies that Fernández Álvarez will be responsible for the Sleep Pulmonology, Pulmonary Function, and Non-Invasive Ventilation sections.

Fernández Álvarez holds a degree and doctorate in Medicine from Oviedo University, as well as a master’s in Health Economics and Health Management from the University of La Laguna. He completed his training as a specialist in Pneumology at HUCA, where he has spent a significant portion of his professional career. Additionally, he has been part of the Pulmonology team at Canary Islands University Hospital and is a researcher and one of the leaders of the group of Respiratory Pathology at the Institute of Health Research of the Principality of Asturias.

As a pulmonologist, Fernández Álvarez has focused his interests on non-invasive ventilation (especially home mechanical ventilation), pulmonary function laboratory, and diseases of occupational and environmental origin, among others, including lung cancer. He has participated in scientific articles and books on the specialty and has also served as coordinator of the EROM work group Respiratory Diseases of Occupational and Environmental Origin of the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (Separ).

The appointment of Ramon Fernandez Alvarez as head of the Pulmonology Section at HUCA brings a wealth of expertise and experience in respiratory pathology to the hospital. His dedication to the field and research is a valuable asset to the healthcare community in the Principality of Asturias.
