The first case of Monkeypox (monkeypox) has been identified in Modena. He is a 21-year-old Italian citizen residing in the province of Modena who showed up yesterday afternoon at the Polyclinic. The man returned from a trip from the Canary Islands two weeks ago; in all likelihood he is there that he was infected. The young man was subjected to the swab provided in these cases (a sample of the liquid contained in a vesicle is analyzed).
The virological test carried out by CRREM, the regional reference laboratory for microbiological emergencies at the Sant’Orsola Polyclinic in Bologna confirmed the clinical hypothesis: the patient tested positive for MPXV, the Monkeypox virus.
The 21-year-old is currently in home isolation and is in good health.
“Upon confirmation of the positivity, the epidemiological investigation was immediately initiated to identify any contacts at risk and adopt all the preventive measures envisaged in these cases.“, Declares Davide Ferrari, Director of the Public Health Department of the USL of Modena.
