With 95% of the ballots counted, the Catalan independentists lose their absolute majority. Junts, Carles Puigdemontā€™s party, grows by three seats but ERC, currently in government, has only 20 deputies, 13 less than in 2021. The radical pro-independence left of the CUP is also losing ground, gaining 4 seats, losing 5. The far-right independentist from AlianƧa Catalana enters the new Parliament with 2 seats. The independence front now appears far from the absolute majority of 68 seats. The Party of Socialists of Catalonia confirms its lead with 42 seats, a clear advantage over the other political forces. For the first time in thirteen years, pro-independence parties have lost their majority in the Catalan Parliament.

The socialists led by Salvador Illa win the elections in Catalonia, significantly increasing the gap from the pro-independence forces, who lose their absolute majority. It is the picture that the partial results paint with over 95% of the ballots counted. The Party of Socialists of Catalonia obtained 42 seats, 9 more than in the previous electoral round in 2021. Junts, the party of the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont, surpasses Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya, currently in government, gaining 36 seats, 4 more. Governor Pere Aragonā€™s ERC recorded a sharp decline, stopping at 20 seats with a loss of 13 deputies. The radical pro-independence left of the Cup also did badly, stopping at 4 seats and losing 5. A good result was achieved by the Peopleā€™s Party, which surpassed Vox and stood at 15 seats, 12 more than in 2021. Santiago Abascalā€™s party confirms the 11 deputies. Comuns Sumar drops to 6 seats. The far-right pro-independence AlianƧa Catalana party led by the mayor of Ripoll, SĆlvia Orriols, then enters the new Parliament with 2 seats, a novelty of this electoral round. However, Ciudadanos, once a point of reference for the anti-independence electorate, remains outside.

Sanchez: historic result, a new phase opens Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez congratulated the socialist candidate for the Catalan Generalitat, Salvador Illa, and spoke of a ā€œhistoric resultā€ in Catalonia which opens a ā€œnew phaseā€. ā€œCongratulations Salvador Illa, for this historic result obtained in Catalonia. We socialists are once again the leading force. From today a new stage opens in Catalonia to improve the lives of citizens, expand rights and strengthen coexistenceā€, wrote Sanchez on X, then thanking the militants and voters. ā€œCatalonia is ready to create a new future and usher in a time of hope,ā€ added the prime minister.

Peopleā€™s Party: ā€œWe again refer to Catalonia with common senseā€ ā€œThe Peopleā€™s Party is back. We are once again the point of reference for Catalonia with common sense, which believes in coexistence and feels Catalan, Spanish and Europeanā€: said Dolors Montserrat, MEP and candidate of the Spanish Peopleā€™s Party for the Catalan administrative elections , in a first comment on the ā€œgreat growthā€ of the centre-right formation according to the provisional ballot (by around 7 percentage points). ā€œOur message is clear,ā€ she added, ā€œno vote of ours will allow a pro-independence activist to be president.ā€

Polling stations close at set times, no extensions The polling stations for the regional elections in Catalonia closed at 8pm at the pre-established time without there being any extension as the pro-independence parties ERC and Junts had requested in consideration of the problems with train circulation which occurred throughout the day , particularly in Barcelona, ā€‹ā€‹for copper theft. The counting of the ballot papers has therefore begun. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is following him as usual from the Moncloa Palace. The candidates for the presidency of the Generalitat are all in Barcelona with the exception of Carles Puigdemont who is in the headquarters opened by the Junts party in the French town of Argelers.
