A study examines the effect of so-called resistant starch on body weight and metabolism. The subjects actually lost weight during the experiment. But no one can explain why that is.
Can cold jacket potatoes or pasta help you lose weight? A new study at least suggests such a connection. As researchers from China and Germany explain in the journal Nature Metabolism, so-called resistant starch could have a beneficial effect on metabolism. Resistant starches are found, for example, in potatoes or pasta, as well as in grains, seeds and legumes. Their proportion can increase if, for example, pasta or potatoes are allowed to cool after cooking before consumption.
