SCANDIANO. First concrete step for the new “gym house” in Arceto, the ambitious project on which the voluntary association “Progetto Anziani Arceto”, owner of the management of the protected house of the main Scandianese fraction, works by many. After years of studies, negotiations, evaluations and preliminary fundraising, yesterday morning the ceremony for laying the symbolic first stone of the new structure took place, which will rise in a meadow next to the local sports facilities at via per Scandiano. 26, along the road that leads to Chiozza and the capital.
The chosen date is not causal: yesterday, Sunday 11 July, Arceto celebrated the San Luigi festival as usual, which was very much felt by the residents. A reduced edition due to the inevitable health restrictions of the period, but still present after a year of forced break. The official moment saw as guest of honor the vice president of the Emilia-Romagna Region with responsibility for Welfare, Elly Schlein, flanked by the council colleague Alessio Mammi, Councilor for Agriculture, born and raised in Arceto and former mayor of Scandiano. With them the current mayor of Scandiano, Matteo Nasciuti; the President of the Province, Giorgio Zanni; the Reggio regional councilors Roberta Mori e Federico Amico and almost a hundred inhabitants of the area, in addition to the don Antonio Davoli, who blessed the stone. The two main architects of the project, the president and vice-president of the “Progetto Anziani Arceto” association, coordinated the whole morning Giorgio Manfredini e Lanfranco Fradici, who have been working full time for some time both in the management of the protected house – one of the main references for the district – and now to complete the path of the “gym house”.
There is still a long way to go; over time, several resources have been pooled between agreements and funding, but almost two million euros are needed to complete the work. The need is strong, as Elly Schlein and the other speakers have pointed out. A gym with these characteristics could become particularly important for the entire ceramic district, on the Reggio area and beyond, in one of the most populous areas in the whole of Emilia-Romagna.
At the moment, the bottom is still green; in the coming months the actual construction site should start for the construction of the foundations on which the various environments will then be built. The gym was designed to allow physical activity and motor recovery to people with disabilities and to those with the need to carry out rehabilitation exercises. It will be 50 meters by 21 meters long, with an internal height of over 7 meters and 12 meters outside, with a main floor and two further levels for individual services, offices and clinics.
«There are two fundamental parts of the project: a large gym space and a portion of additional services complementary to physical activity in the gym and personalized motor recovery in small spaces – it was explained by presenting the details -. The gym consists of a full-height open space suitable for dimensions to contain up to a basketball court, while the portion dedicated to services is structured on three levels ».
