On the day of the great military parade, which in Moscow celebrated the victory over the Nazis in World War II, hackers who support Ukraine scarred Russian TVs by modifying their electronic guides shortly before Putin’s speech to the nation.
Those who logged on yesterday morning, May 9, to consult schedules and programs of Russian broadcasters, saw scrolling only one message on the screen: “On your hands is the blood of thousands of Ukrainians and murdered children. The TVs and the authorities are lying to you. No to war”.
The change affected both the electronic help page and the information that was displayed while a particular broadcast was in progress. The hacker message was superimposed even during icanimated artons for childrenas shown by some screenshots disseminated on social networks.
A video on Twitter showed what Russian viewers saw. This was published by Francis Scarr, of the BBC Monitoring team, which has been keeping an eye on television broadcasts in Russia since the beginning of the war to intercept propaganda episodes.
