The first hearing has begun in the courtroom of the Court of Assizes of Milan against Alessandro Impagnatiello, the 30-year-old former barman accused of aggravated voluntary homicide, including premeditation, for killing his girlfriend Giulia Tramontano, aged 29, with 37 stab wounds years old, seven months pregnant, in their home in Senago, in the Milan area, on May 27th.
Giulia Tramontano’s family hopes that the “conduct is sanctioned as it deserves”. The plaintiff’s lawyer Giovanni Cacciapuoti explained this before the start of the hearing. Giulia’s family demands that he be sentenced to life in prison.
“I’m only asking so many people to apologize but it will never be enough.” Alessandro Impagnatiello said it in his statements in the courtroom where he is accused of the murder of his pregnant girlfriend Giulia Tramontano. “I was gripped by something that will always be inexplicable and inhumane – he added – I was shocked and lost. That day I destroyed the child I was ready to welcome. That day I too left, I’m here talking but I don’t live anymore. I don’t ask for these apologies to be accepted, because I feel every day what it means to lose a child and much more, I cannot ask for forgiveness.”

Impagnatiello, detained in San Vittore, arrived accompanied by penitentiary police officers. Low gaze, bowed head, beard and mustache: the 30-year-old is wearing a dark jacket, jeans and sneakers. He sat on the bench in the cage of the courtroom of the first Assize Court. Giulia’s sister, Chiara, arrived in the courtroom, packed with reporters and onlookers.
Before entering the courtroom, the lawyer and former prosecutor Antonio Ingroia, who represents the Municipality of Senago, also spoke to reporters, asking to be a civil party. “It is an important and courageous choice made by the Municipality – said Ingroia – the citizens of Senago know which side they are on, we want to encourage all the Municipalities in Italy to demonstrate that they are on the right side”. It is evident, added the former Sicilian prosecutor, the “lucid and ruthless premeditation is an example of brutality”. As with mafia conduct, he continued, “there was a pre-establishment of impunity on his part”. And finally: “I don’t think there are traces or clues to a defect of mind, there was clarity in the criminal intent
