Absenteeism in the workplace is on the rise, with causes not always related to health issues. A recent consultation by Urban Sports Club has revealed that absences due to family responsibilities, personal reasons, lack of motivation, and dissatisfaction with work environment are becoming prevalent in organizations post-pandemic.
In a webinar titled “Employees as co-responsible for their health with corporate sports programs,” Maria Linares from Rastreator and Andrea Tabanera from Urban Sports Club discussed strategies to address absenteeism. The consultation results showed that younger workers tend to have higher absenteeism rates compared to older employees, with non-managerial staff accounting for the most absences.
Vacation policies, flexible schedules, and teleworking are seen as effective measures to reduce absenteeism, with corporate sports programs also recognized as beneficial. However, these programs are the least implemented in companies and are not well-known among employees.
María Linares shared insights on Rastreator’s corporate well-being program, which focuses on promoting various aspects of employee wellness such as mental, physical, and financial health. The company has a well-being committee that serves as an idea incubator, connecting employee needs with organizational strategy.
As absenteeism continues to be a concern for organizations, implementing comprehensive wellness programs and addressing root causes of absences can help create a healthier and more productive work environment.
