The Royal Academy of Medicine of the Balearic Islands emphasized the importance of using masks correctly rather than simply making them mandatory without any control. Doctor and academic, Antonio Pareja, pointed out that the focus should be on how masks are used rather than whether they are mandatory. He explained that hygienic masks have a useful life of about two to two and a half hours, while surgical masks have a useful life of three to three and a half hours in ideal conditions. However, the presence of saliva, mucus, and sweat can reduce this useful life. Pareja also advised individuals to calculate the time they will be in a health center and carry spare masks for two-way protection. He stressed that the incorrect use of masks can create a false sense of security and emphasized the importance of washing hands and maintaining distance as additional measures to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses.
