We often hear about the importance of a balanced lifestyle that excludes excess fat, smoking, and alcohol, and provides for the right amount of movement and sleep. These, however, are not simple idioms but, rather, recommendations to be taken seriously in order to prevent health. In fact, according to what the medical sector claims, prevention is the most powerful weapon at our disposal to ward off current and future diseases. This is especially true for those pathologies that do not give warning of their arrival, unless it is already too late.
This is the case, for example, of excess cholesterol and triglycerides that could affect vital organs such as the liver. We had explored this aspect by discussing a particular drink with which we could purify the fatty liver.
Tiredness, headaches, and swollen legs and feet could be the sign of this serious silent ailment
Furthermore, when the first symptoms begin to appear, they could be underestimated or mistaken for common and transient phenomena. How many times, returning home, have we experienced fatigue, headaches and swollen legs and feet, associating them with being too upright?
However, behind the concomitant appearance of these symptoms there could be a serious disorder affecting an organ essential for our health.
And in fact the swelling in the lower limbs, weakness and asthenia, confusion and shortness of breath could be attributable to kidney failure.
The kidneys are organs that regulate the expulsion of harmful substances such as waste and acids through liquids. When the kidneys are no longer able to perform their function adequately it could be associated with renal failure, divided into acute and chronic.
Potential causes
We speak of acute renal failure when the functions of the kidneys are compromised in a few days or even in a few hours. Chronic renal failure, on the other hand, has a slower course that can last for months but which manifests itself only in its most advanced state.
The causes related to kidney failure can be many, such as excess cholesterol, diabetes and hypertension or urinary tract obstructions. In other cases, kidney health could be compromised due to medication, dehydration and liver failure.
Kidney failure can be diagnosed through specific tests, such as blood and urine tests, or ultrasound scans. However, in case of doubts or suspicious symptoms, it is advisable to consult a doctor who will be able to provide the most suitable solution.
