Tragic Death of Hospital Worker: CCOO Sanidad Madrid Reports Religious Order for Negligence

A worker at the Fundación Instituto San José Hospital in Madrid has tragically passed away after being attacked by a patient at the hospital. CCOO Sanidad Madrid has taken action by reporting the Order of San Juan de Dios, which owns and manages the hospital, to the Labor Inspection. The incident took place on February 15, and the worker, Juan Alfonso RP, a 57-year-old Auxiliary Care Technician of Nursing, was assaulted by a patient who kicked him hard in the testicles.

The union has highlighted that proper aggression protocols were not followed, adequate preventive measures were not in place, and the staff lacked sufficient training to handle such situations. The worker did not receive medical assistance after the attack and tragically passed away the next day after leaving the hospital premises.

CCOO has emphasized the need for accountability in this tragic incident, pointing out the corporate responsibility for the lack of safety measures and the failure to implement an aggression protocol. The Secretary of Occupational Health of CCOO Sanidad Madrid, Manuel Barroso, is urging the Labor Inspection to investigate and clarify the civil and criminal responsibilities for this incident leading to the worker’s death.
