Sassari Gym Owners and Personal Trainers Arrested in Drug Trafficking Operation
A major operation by the Nas carabinieri of Sassari resulted in searches and arrests of individuals connected to the world of city gyms. The operation, which began at dawn yesterday, targeted 24 suspects, with two individuals placed under house arrest – personal trainer Fabrizio Piroddu, 45, and Mirko Pinna, 44, both from Sassari.
During the house searches, anabolic drugs were seized, and the suspects are accused of distributing them in city gyms. The investigation, coordinated by the Sassari Prosecutor’s Office, targeted individuals linked to gyms such as Spartan Fitness and Ludus in Predda Niedda.
Francesco Moretti, owner of the Ludus gym, was among those under investigation. Moretti confirmed the raid, stating that the police searched both his gym and home, but found only drugs prescribed to him by a doctor for medical reasons. Moretti emphasized that no anabolic drugs were found in his possession.
The two arrested individuals will face trial this morning, with further details on the investigation expected to be released by the Carabinieri. Piroddu, a nurse working in a hospital, had previously been arrested on similar charges in 2021, while Pinna recently agreed to a prison sentence for drug-related charges.
In a previous incident, Pinna was found to be operating a drug super market in his car wash, resulting in the seizure of cocaine, heroin, hashish, and marijuana, along with cutting substances and cash. The investigation into the suspects is ongoing, with more information expected to come to light as the case progresses.
