Ukraine: Large-scale Russian attack with missiles and drones
Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukrainian cities tonight. Russia called in Shahed-type ballistic and cruise missiles, rockets and drones throughout the night. This was reported by The Kiev Independent, citing the Ukrainian Air Force as a source. Several explosions – the Ukrainian online newspaper reports – were heard in the regions of Zaporizhzhia and Ivano-Frankivsk around 5 am local time. Residents reported hearing explosions in Kiev at around 5.30am local time. Ukrainian air defense is at work in all regions, including that around the capital, and up to the city of Lviv to the west. Air raid sirens had previously been heard in all regions. No casualties were reported.
Ukrain’s Energy Ministry said energy infrastructure was attacked in the Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnytsia regions. The damage is currently being investigated and work is underway to restore electricity and power generation capacity. Explosions also occurred in the Kiev region in the city of Brovary, near the capital.
