The vaccination campaign continues with the administration of the third dose to healthcare personnel, RSA guests and over eighty-year-olds vaccinated in January.
Yesterday afternoon, in the outpatient clinic in via Napoleona, it was the turn of the president of the Como Medical Association, Gianluigi Spata: «A necessary recall – his comment – because it guarantees greater protection from infection. We know in fact that the antibody response induced by the serum tends to decrease with the passage of time, it is therefore useful to repeat the dose respecting the scheduled times, ie to wait at least six months from the last vaccination, in order to obtain almost total coverage “.
The evidence is confirmed by the cases of contagion among health workers: «We record a slight increase, and it is also for this reason that I recommend to colleagues to undergo the third dose when the time comes. We doctors have a great responsibility to protect our patients, avoiding in every way the risk of contagion in the environments in which we operate ».
The “booster”, as the third booster is called, increases the effectiveness of the vaccine up to 44 times in both Pfizer and Moderna’s cases, and acts as a shield against the new variants of Covid.
Meanwhile, the data of the epidemic in the province of Como are reassuring: in conjunction with the beginning of the autumn season, the circulation of the virus stands at historic lows. “Compared to a year ago – analyzes Spata – the situation is under control, thanks above all to the high percentage of citizens vaccinated. We must continue in this direction, I would like once again to appeal to all people who have not yet received the first dose to get vaccinated ». In numbers, in Italy “there are almost seven million and it is a rather high number. We must not let our guard down: in Great Britain the daily cases have increased a lot, unfortunately also due to the lifting of all restrictions. Fortunately, hospital admissions and intensive care remain stable, a sign of the fact that vaccination still makes it possible to avoid serious illness ».
At the same time as the third anti-Covid dose, by booking on the dedicated website of the Lombardy Region, the over 80s and healthcare professionals can receive the flu shot.
