The most downloaded app of the moment in Italy is called e-Covid Sinfonia: it is at the top of the downloads both in the Android Play Store ranking and in the Apple App Store. To undermine the usual Whatsapp and Google Maps (and also games and other Italian apps, such as Poste ID) is an application made in Naples, which despite the musical name, is not needed to play anything. It is not even new, as it was launched exactly one year ago. And it’s obviously free.
“e-Covid Sinfonia is dedicated to citizens in the Campania region. It is aimed at those who show symptoms related to Covid-19, to those who have come into close contact with people positive to Covid-19, to those who have been subjected to surveillance measures active, to those who have had a swab or undergone vaccination for Covid-19 “, explains Massimo Di Gennaro, Director of Data Analytics and Digital Innovation of Soresa SpA.” e-Covid Sinfonia was created by a mixed development team, external and internal, and all the code and data generated by the app are owned by the Campania Region “.
A positive example of public-private collaboration: today the Campania app has over 823,000 users, 220,000 registered family members and more than 3 million vaccination certificates displayed. A remarkable result, given that there are currently about 3.5 million vaccinated in the De Luca region. Twice a day, e-Covid Sinfonia transmits the data to the National Vaccines Registry, and “in the future it will also allow you to register the Green Pass”, Di Gennaro anticipates. Today it also allows you to communicate with the general practitioner thanks to another app, which is called e-Covid Medici. In addition, it acts as an agenda for vaccine appointments and various deadlines: every day e-Covid Sinfonia sends about 350,000 notifications.
The download boom of the last few days, however, is linked to the new function that allows you to book for vaccination Open Days, used above all by the youngest. A couple of touches and for anyone with a primary care physician in Campania the first dose is at hand. First, however, you need to register by entering personal data and tax code, your own and those of any relatives, and answer some questions some questions; then comes a confirmation SMS, but the process appears rather simple overall. And in any case, the data is safe because it is protected by a password, fingerprint or facial recognition.
“Our challenge is also to imagine the next post-pandemic scenarios,” he says Corrado Cuccurullo, president of Soresa. “The technological solutions that we have designed in these months of emergency can be extended to cover all areas of interest of the regional health system, representing the new digital paradigm of interaction with system bodies and citizens”.
