Global Green Pass: WHO calls for cooperation and preparation for future health crises

Milan, 9 April. (beraking latest news Health) ā€“ The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union have proposed a ā€œglobalā€ Green pass that is essentially an electronic health record accepted worldwide. The Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Hans Kluge, emphasized the importance of countries considering joining this new system in order to better manage future health crises.

Speaking on the occasion of celebrating the 20th anniversary of the WHO Office in Venice, Kluge highlighted the need for resilient and healthier societies that leave no one behind. He stressed the importance of cooperation and exchange in preventing or responding to future health emergencies.

In response to the challenges exposed by the pandemic, the European Commission is proposing a stronger European Health Union and the establishment of a Pan-European Disease Control Network. This network will comprise EU and non-EU countries from the European region, including Central Asia, to detect and notify each other of evolving health threats.

Kluge underscored the importance of information sharing and cooperation post-pandemic, especially in relation to the global Green Pass. He urged countries to consider how they can effectively manage future health crises to prevent the immense loss of life and economic disruption experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The global Green Pass is seen as an extension and digitalization of the existing ā€˜Yellow cardā€™, a medical passport used in Italy to verify vaccination against dangerous diseases. Kluge emphasized the need for a global healthcare reform to better prepare for and respond to future health crises.
