5,093 former community mothers began to receive pension subsidy

by admin

Women who served as community mothers will receive compensation of $1,040,000.

Between March 11 and 22, more than 5,000 women who played roles as community mothers in Colombia will begin to receive compensation for their work dedicated to early childhood care. This measure seeks to settle a historical debt and improve the quality of life of those who dedicated more than ten years of their lives to this noble task.

The pension subsidy, which exceeds one million pesos, will be given to women who can prove between 10 and 20 years of service as community mothers and who do not meet the requirements to access a pension. The compensation will include the amounts corresponding to January and February 2024, as well as a retroactive amount from January to December 2023.

The government, in its commitment to recognize the invaluable work of these women, issued decree 2182 of December 15, 2023, which significantly increased the monthly subsidy from $498,000 to more than one million pesos. This economic recognition, regulated by article 139 of the National Development Plan, is co-financed by resources from the Pension Solidarity Fund and the ICBF.

President Gustavo Petro Urrego, in his speech, noted: “We have also recognized the work of those noble women, infinitely kind, who with their nails have taken care of children who are not their own,” said the president.

The Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) has urged all women who served as community mothers to approach the zonal centers or regional offices closest to your place of residence to obtain more information about this subsidy and the steps to follow to receive it.
