A plantation of opium poppies seized in Altivole

Operation of the Guardia di Finanza, which identified the garden plants of a villa used for the production of clothing

ALTIVOLE. The Guardia di Finanza of Treviso, with the support of colleagues from the Castelfranco lieutenancy, seized a plantation of opium poppiesbuilt on a plot of about 200 square meters, denouncing a foreign citizen for the crime of illicit cultivation of plants from which to obtain narcotic substances.

Tracking the land used for cultivation was the activity of controlling the territory, carried out by the patrols of the two departments of the Marca, which identified the opium poppies, despite the fact that the plants were skilfully hidden by other vegetation.

It was precisely the circumstance that the garden of a villaused partly as a dwelling and partly for the production of clothing, was scattered, among other vegetable and vegetable crops, of 152 plants well-tended poppies, between 30 and 90 centimeters high.

That it was an unauthorized cultivation was confirmed by the results of the analyzes carried out by the Ulss3 clinical and forensic toxicology laboratory, which ascertained the presence, in the 356 poppy bulbs, of active principles morphine and opioids (codeine, papaverine, noscapine).

The person responsible was therefore denounced for the crime of illegal drug cultivation and production, while the plantation was seized and the prosecutor ordered its destruction.
