Missouri Math Teacher Charged with Rape for Relationship with Student

A Missouri math teacher, Hailey Clifton-Carmack, 26, has been charged with rape for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student. Reports indicate that other students served as “lookouts” while the illicit act took place. Shockingly, the teenager’s father has also been arrested on charges of enabling the relationship to continue.

The disturbing incident came to light on December 7, 2023, when a classmate of the student reported the illicit relationship to the Laquey High School resource officer, who immediately contacted the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the complaint, the witness showed photographs to an officer depicting scratches on his partner’s back, claiming they were the result of sexual encounters with Clifton-Carmack.

Further troubling details emerged from court documents, revealing that the teacher had previously been in trouble with the school administration for “being too close to students.” Additionally, a student testified that the teacher had sought a divorce due to “love problems.”

When confronted by law enforcement officers following the allegations on December 8, 2023, Clifton-Carmack denied having any kind of sexual relationship with the student. However, an analysis of her phone’s contents following a warrant issued on December 22 revealed text messages evidencing the relationship between the teacher and the student.

The teacher left Missouri around December 23 to visit her family in Texas, where she was eventually arrested. Meanwhile, the student’s father, Mark Creighton, was also arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child. Court documents suggest he was aware of his son’s sexual relationship with the teacher and that other students were acting as lookouts.

The Laquey R5 School District Superintendent, Kent Stoumbaugh, condemned Clifton-Carmack’s actions in a statement, indicating that the alleged misconduct does not meet professional standards for district employees. The teacher has not been on school property since the allegations came to light, and it is unlikely that she will return.

Clifton-Carmack awaits extradition to Missouri from the Comal County Jail, while the young man’s father remains detained on bail of USD 50,000. The case has sparked widespread outrage and reignited the debate about responsibility and ethical conduct within educational institutions.
