Accident during the blessing of the Fire leaves 13 people injured

In an unfortunate accident during the celebration of the Easter Vigil in the Parish of the Immaculate Conception, in the Santa Clara de Ocaña neighborhood, department of Norte de Santander, at least 13 people were injured by burns caused by an electric cable.

The event took place on Holy Saturday and among the injured were three elderly adults and seven minors, who were treated at the Emiro Quintero Cañizares hospital in the city. According to the medical report from said healthcare center, seven of those affected had minor superficial burns, while the other six remain under observation for medical monitoring and hydration.

Dr. Juan Carlos Sierra, who provided details about the condition of the patients, pointed out that those who remain hospitalized could require plastic surgery due to the nature of the injuries. “The commitments are in special areas,” explained the doctor.

Although the exact causes of the accident are still unknown, it is speculated that a wire used in a bonfire lit for the liturgical ceremony may have come into contact with an electrical network cable, triggering an explosion. Another possibility that is being investigated is whether the bonfire affected a high-tension cable, which fell causing injuries to those present.

In light of this tragic event, the Immaculate Conception Parish expressed a message of solidarity through its social networks, calling to pray for the brothers affected by the incident. The local community unites in support and solidarity with the injured and their families, hoping for their speedy recovery and clarification of what happened.
