Affiliates, neither retirees nor pensioners of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) must pay for the failures and consequences of mismanagement administrative and political which has led to financial insufficiency of that institution.
In recent months, the lack of money in the IESS coffers has led to a series of measures by those who administer it, including the preparation of a study which suggests the increase in the contribution percentage and the retirement age.
Meanwhile, the entity maintains million-dollar debts with external providers, even with those that provide services as sensitive as dialysis and cancer treatments.
Patients must travel several times to get a consultation with a specialist and, if they do, wait for months. Affiliates do not have to pay for IESS failures.
What’s more, when they go, they must Buy medicines because they don’t always have them available.
Little is said about the optimization of a hyper-bureaucratized institution, converted into a political fortress and an account of emergency of governments.
There is also no mention of the need for the State to honor pending accounts that he has with this institution, which has served as a supplier of funds that should not be touched because it is members’ money.
It is true that the IESS needs resourcesbut first I should put the house in order.
