Ten years of imprisonment for the former Nar Massimo Carminati, twelve years and ten months for the ras of the Roman cooperatives Salvatore Buzzi. These are the sentences established on Tuesday evening by the Court of Appeal of Rome against the two main defendants of the “Mondo di Mezzo” investigation, at the end of the bis appeal process. The Court of Cassation had asked for the recalculation of the sentences in October 2019, which had sensationally demolished the beating heart of the investigation set up by the Roman investigators, dropping the accusation of mafia association. The “Middle World” was not mafia, but simple corruption, had established the Supreme Court (reasons filed last June), sweeping away not only the theorem advanced by the then head of the Rome prosecutor Giuseppe Pignatone, but also years and years of forcaiola rhetoric on “Mafia Capitale”. A narrative fed over time by a multitude of journalistic inquiries, books and even films, which have exposed the city of Rome and our entire country to the ridicule of the world.
