Colombian gymnast Ángel Barajas secured his qualification for his first Olympic Games by taking first place on the parallel bars during the Gymnastics World Cup in Doha, as announced by the Colombian Olympic Committee (COC).
With this achievement, Colombia reached a total of 49 places for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after a series of four World Cup stops by devices that awarded tickets to the first two in each modality.
Barajas earned his ticket to Paris by scoring 51 points and dominating the competition on parallel bars. Although he also participated in the fixed bar, he failed to qualify in that discipline.
Colombia now has 19 nominal and 30 numerical places in disciplines such as women’s soccer, athletics, swimming, wrestling, gymnastics, boxing, equestrian, archery, sailing, fencing and weightlifting.
The first 18 numerical places were obtained by the Colombian women’s soccer team after reaching runners-up in the Copa América 2022.
For the Paris 2024 edition, which will take place from July 26 to August 11, Colombia aims to secure more places to bring a delegation of around 70 athletes, a figure close to the 71 that participated in the Tokyo Olympic Games. 2020.
