Bahía Solano: illegal fishing seized in the Utría Natural Park

Personnel from the Bahía Solano Coast Guard Station, the Bahía Solano mayor’s office, the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority, AUNAP, the Regional Autonomous Corporation for the Sustainable Development of Chocó, Codechocó, and National Natural Parks traveled to the Utría National Natural Park, where they located a 1,500-meter trammel net, in which several species that were extracted from the place were trapped.

The material was transported to the dock of the Bahía Solano Coast Guard Station, where officials from the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority – AUNAP, determined that among the fish species trapped were saw tuna, barracuda, bonito, burica, blacktail, snapper, sardinata, veranera, among others, weighing 171 kilograms.

In another operation, Colombian Navy officials located four vessels in the South Pacific, each manned by three individuals of Ecuadorian nationality, who were fishing in Colombian waters without the corresponding permits.

The uniformed personnel proceeded to transfer the personnel and material to the port of Tumaco – Nariño, where the catch was delivered to the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority – AUNAP, which determined that they were transporting a total of 560 kilograms of goldfish. The 12 subjects were placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office.

It should be noted that, according to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora – CITES, the goldfish is protected and is a marine species of the Coryphaena family that is distributed throughout the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic and Indian oceans. and Pacific.
