Birds don’t exist, they aren’t real. In the sixties the US government began to exterminate them and gradually replace them with drones that look like real birds. The goal is to control the population. Twelve billion drones watching us from above day and night. This was revealed by a colossal leak called “Poultrygate”, the poultry scandal: hundreds of emails leaked from sources inside the White House. All confirmed also by a former CIA agent who has decided to come out. Among the most evident proofs: birds alight on electric cables to recharge.
Obviously it’s all false: Birds aren’t real is a parody, a mockery of conspiracy theories. Peter McIndoe, a 23-year-old boy from Memphis, invented it in 2017. “My favorite way to describe the movement is: fighting madness with madness,” Claire Chronis, 22, one of the organizers, told the New York Times.
In Italy, according to a recent Censis survey, people who believe that the Earth is flat are 5.8 percent of the population. In the United States, the situation is different and conspiracy theories are even more widespread. McIndoe himself said he grew up in a deeply conservative and religious community where he was taught that evolution was a gigantic “brainwashing plan orchestrated by the Democratic Party and that Barack Obama was the antichrist.”
Certainly one of the interesting aspects of Birds aren’t real is that it demonstrates how it is possible to construct any theory, even the most incredible, and circulate it freely in the media and on the internet. It remains to be seen whether opposing disinformation by producing more disinformation does not risk strengthening the very mechanisms that you want to fight or if, as the organizers hope, Birds aren’t real can serve to make people think and reveal how all conspiracy theories work.
