The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, stated during an interview with The country that President Nayib Bukele has broad support from Salvadorans.
«Democracy is listening to the opinion and will of the citizens, and it seems that Bukele has broad social support. “One can more or less agree with certain policies, but it is up to the citizens to issue their verdict,” said Borrell.
Likewise, the Spaniard asserted that the situation in El Salvador is not comparable to the dictatorship in Nicaragua. “In the case of Nicaragua, they cannot issue their verdict because in Nicaragua there are no elections that can be considered free,” he stated.
