After the fifth parliamentary elections within two years, the parliament in Sofia confirmed a regular government that replaces the previous transitional cabinet. The new prime minister will initially be former education minister Denkow, who belongs to the second-placed PP party. He is to be replaced after nine months by former EU Commissioner Gabriel from the GERB party. GERB won the election in April. The two rival parties emphasized that there was no coalition agreement, only a “gentlemen’s agreement”.
With the new government in Bulgaria, observers expect the south-eastern EU country to more consistently join its western allies in their support for Ukraine.
