Saturday March 2 marked the end of this season’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League group stage. At the end of this stage of the game, eight teams qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Five former winners of the event are still in the race to win the grail.

Al Ahly (11 times), TP Mazembe (5), Espérance (4), Asec Mimosas (1) and Mamelodi Sundowns (1), had the honor of lifting the trophy most coveted by football clubs in Africa.

Al Ahly, winner of the last edition, is in the running to defend its title. The Egyptians beat Young Africans 1-0 at home, a victory which saw them top Group D with 12 points.

For their part, the Tanzanians took second place in this group despite their defeat in Cairo.

Sundowns secured top spot in Group A with 13 points, after beating TP Mazembe 1-0 in Pretoria on Saturday (March 2). Despite this defeat, the Congolese also qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition, finishing runner-up to the South Africans with 10 points.

The Ivorians of ASEC Mimosas took the lead in Group B with 11 points, despite their away defeat against Wydad Casablanca.

The Angolans of Petro de Luanda and the Tunisians of Esperance de Tunis are among the clubs qualified for the quarter-finals.
