The mayor of Valledupar, Ernesto Orozco, signed decree 000023 of January 11, 2024, in which anti-drug protection zones are established in the municipality to guarantee free recreation and a healthy environment for girls, boys and adolescents in the city, prohibiting the consumption, carrying, facilitation, distribution and marketing of psychoactive substances in those places.

The measure adopted by Ernesto Orozco’s administration has received several comments. One of the first to speak out was the former candidate for Mayor of Valledupar, Camilo Quiroz, who expressed: “How good that, just 12 days into the year, intermediate cities like Valledupar, hit mercilessly by insecurity and crime, have dawned with the issuance of a decree by the mayor, which decides to combat the consumption and sale of drugs in public spaces that belong to childhood and youth.”.
He added that this was also a commitment of his Government Plan and asked Mayor Ernesto Orozco that safe anti-drug zones be expanded throughout the city. In addition, he recommended creating an alliance with taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers to reinforce security in Valledupar.
“The important thing is that this does not remain a decree and that these safe zones can begin to expand throughout the city; Also, get to those parks with lighting and can form that large network of cooperators with motorcycle taxi drivers and taxi drivers who are also ready to combat insecurity”said.
Representative Claudia Margarita Zuleta also referred to the anti-drug decree and urged the municipal leaders of Cesar to replicate that measure in their territories.
