EVERGEM –

A teacher and four children were slightly injured in an accident on the R4 with Elslo in Evergem. Their vehicle was hit by a car that, according to witnesses, ignored a red light. One of the occupants of the car that collided is in life-threatening condition.

“The teacher and children came by car from Elslo and crossed the R4,” says the police of the Assenede-Evergem zone. “All four were slightly injured and were taken to hospital for a check-up.”

The car that hit the teacher and children came from Zelzate and drove in the direction of Ghent. According to witnesses, the driver allegedly ignored a red light. “There were two people in that car. One person suffered life-threatening injuries,” police said. “Traffic disruption is currently limited.”

The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office will also arrive on site to make the necessary findings and further investigate the nature of the accident.
