Sixteen elected representatives of the autonomist groups (including the condemned) ask for an extraordinary meeting on the prerogatives of the Regional Council
A request for an extraordinary meeting of the Valle d’Aosta Regional Council was filed on Wednesday. Sixteen councilors and councilors from the majority and opposition, including the president of the Region Erik Lavevaz, are proposing the session.
On the agenda of the meeting there will be “the protection of the constitutional prerogatives and functions of the Regional Council and the Councilors”. The central argument will be the appeal sentence with which the Court of Auditors in recent weeks recognized a maxi tax damage caused by public funding to the Casino of Saint-Vincent and sentenced 18 politicians and former politicians – those who voted for the disbursement of funds to the gambling house – to compensate the Region 16 million euros.
The sentence was harshly commented on by the movements involved in the convictions and considered an attack on the establishment of the Regional Council.
Among the condemned there are also councilors Mauro Baccega and Augusto Rollandin (sentenced to pay 2.4 million euros); Aurelio Marguerettaz, Renzo Testolin, Pierluigi Marquis, Claudio Restano, sentenced to pay 586,666 euros each. These six councilors may have to leave the classroom if they do not pay the amount requested and are among those who have requested the extraordinary session. The others are representatives of the autonomist parties. On the other hand, none of the councilors of the VdA League or the PCP signed the request for an extraordinary meeting.
