China and ASEAN Hold Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Jakarta

China and ASEAN (10+1) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Held in Jakarta

JAKARTA, July 13 – The China-ASEAN (10+1) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held in Jakarta on July 13. Wang Yi, the Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, attended the meeting along with the foreign ministers of ASEAN countries and ASEAN observers, as well as the ASEAN Secretary-General.

During the meeting, Wang Yi highlighted the successful cooperation between China and ASEAN in implementing the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. He emphasized the importance of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation and promoting long-term good-neighborly friendship and common development. Wang Yi also expressed China’s commitment to high-quality development and providing new opportunities for other countries through Chinese-style modernization. China is willing to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with ASEAN to jointly promote the modernization process in Asia.

The other attendees thanked China for its support of ASEAN’s centrality and community building. They also appreciated China’s initiative to sign the Protocol to the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone. The parties expressed their hope that the comprehensive strategic partnership between ASEAN and China will continue to reach new levels and achieve new results.

During the meeting, a joint statement on the 20th anniversary of China’s accession to the “Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia” was adopted, as well as a guideline document on accelerating the conclusion of the “Code of Conduct in the South China Sea”.

In addition to the meeting, Wang Yi had bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Vietnam, Russia, and Australia.
