Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) is on a mission to China, together with Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib (MR) and with about twenty business leaders in their wake. The main goal of the two-day trip is to give Belgian companies a boost in the Chinese market. A goal that is clearly also appreciated by the Chinese counterpart. As a sign of goodwill, the Chinese government even cleared the Forbidden City completely on Thursday for the tourist visit of De Croo and his entourage. That is the historical complex of the Chinese emperors in the heart of Beijing.

The most important work takes place on Friday, the last day. De Croo, together with Lahbib, has several summit meetings, including with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The intention is, among other things, to achieve better cooperation for the export of pork from Belgium. The pigs’ feet and heads are a delicacy in China, but their export has been stuck since the outbreak of African swine fever several years ago. The Prime Minister hopes for a breakthrough during his visit.
