Cividale, other scars on the silhouettes of well-known faces

Vandalism carried out in the center. Sixth case from 2019. Ristori, Cozzarolo and Pitor in the sights. The mayor: unspeakable

CIVIDAL. It happened again, for the sixth time, after the period of truce following the flurry of damage – so close as to seem a provocative challenge – suffered, since 2019, by the beautiful silhouettes of Cividalesi of the past placed on the walls of some buildings in the city center ducal to revive part of the ring of the promenade.

No beheading, as happened with the drawing by Angelo Plaino (1906-1991), a well-known merchant, but severed feet and hands to the images positioned along the narrow street that connects Piazzetta Terme Romane to via Ristori.

The vandals have targeted Agostino Cozzarolo (1891-1977), musical composer, soul of the Tomadini choir, whose feet had already been cut off years ago and whose silhouette this time was removed a leg. A foot was then removed from the image of Jaucon Pitor (1851-1935), painter and puppeteer, while the dress was scarred from the drawing of the actress Adelaide Ristori (1822-1906).

And as in all previous episodes, the raid was carried out in the night between Saturday and Sunday: yesterday morning the nasty surprise, photographically documented and immediately reported by Maria Cristina Novelli, former municipal councilor and president of Somsi town.

A new disfigurement, therefore, to the evocative path in the memory conceived by traders and exhibitors in the area, who had studied the project to enhance city corners by paying homage to illustrious or strongly identifying figures.

«An unspeakable gesture. We hoped that such events would not happen again, but instead … »says Mayor Daniela Bernardi bitterly, noting that on this occasion too the vandalisms took place on Saturday night. “Evidently – adds the first citizen – someone has not found better to do to let off steam.”

The comment of Maria Cristina Novelli is of the same tenor: «Those silhouettes are small, but important testimonies of characters who have made, each in their own way, the history of Cividale.

Bravado to execute: the hands of those in charge, poor in knowledge and perhaps bored, should be educated to respect the common good rather than simply be condemned, ”concludes the president of Somsi.
