Baptiste was walking in the parking lot with his parents and his 11-year-old brother on Tuesday around 5:20 p.m. when he was accidentally hit by a car. The toddler, from La Bruyère in the province of Namur, was transported to the hospital in Ottignies, but only death could be confirmed there.

The public prosecutor’s office has requested a medical examiner and a legal expert. The driver, a 41-year-old man from Namur, was subjected to an alcohol test. It turned out to be negative.

The victim went to school in Meux, a sub-municipality of La Bruyère, where his mother also works as a teacher. “Everyone is in shock,” says mayor Yves Depas in La Dernière Heure. “His classmates have all kinds of questions and it is now important to find the right words for the children and colleagues of Baptiste’s mother.”
