Following the case of alleged retaliation against a wild feline in the municipality of Litoral del San Juan, Codechocó, through Resolution number 0476 of April 1, 2024, prohibits poaching of the following species throughout the jurisdiction of the department from Chocó:

(Panthera onca): known by communities as Tiger, Butterfly Tiger, Jaguar.

(Leopardus pardalis): called by the communities as Pintao, Tigrillo, Gallinero tiger, Gato solo, Cunaguaro, Ocelote.

(Leopardus wiedii): named by the communities as Tiger, Rooster Tiger, Wild Cat, Margay, Furry, Furry Tiger, Maracayá or Maracajá.

(Puma concolor): named by the communities as lion, red lion, puma, red tiger, sabanero lion, American lion, mountain lion or cougar.

(Herpailurus yagouaroundi): known by the communities as brown cat, mountain cat, seventh cat, ounce, eira or yaguarundi.

The measure also contemplates starting the preliminary investigation stage to find those allegedly responsible for the events, who, according to article 17 of Law 1333 of 2009, will be subject to an environmental sanctioning process for possible damage caused to the environment. environment and for the violation of environmental legislation, without prejudice to the other sanctions that may apply.

Arnold Rincón López, general director of Codechocó, assured that the entity has carried out awareness-raising and environmental education activities to socialize with the population the importance of wild species and how to contribute to their care. Given the facts that the law is omitted, we have no choice but to enforce environmental regulations, which contemplate rigorous sanctions, so that cases of impact on the territory’s wildlife are not repeated.

The resolution was sent to the Environmental and Agrarian Attorney’s Office of Quibdó, Attorney General’s Office, National Army, Chocó Police Department, National Navy for their knowledge and as competent authorities to contribute to compliance with what is described in the administrative act.
