The new coronavirus runs in Italy, thanks to the contagiousness of the new omicron variant. The weekly ISS-Ministry of Health monitoring now being examined by the control room reports an increase in the Rt transmissibility index and the incidence of Covid cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in Italy.

The incidence stands out, which as of January 6 was equal to 1,669 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the week of December 31, 2021 – January 6, 2022 and doubled compared to the value of 783 last week (data recorded from December 24 to 30 2021). The highest data are recorded in Tuscany with 2,680 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, in Lombardy with 2,578.1 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, in Umbria with 2,235.6 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, in Valle d’Aosta with 2,255.9 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants , in Emilia Romagna with 2,153 cases, in Abruzzo with 2,108.5 infections per 100 thousand inhabitants, in the autonomous province of Trento with 2,051.2 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.

Rt up sharply to 1.43

The RT instead rose to 1.43 from the value of 1.18 the previous week. In the period 15-28 December 2021, therefore, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 1.43 (range 1.23 – 2), a sharp increase compared to the previous week and well above the epidemic threshold. The transmissibility index based on cases with hospitalization is also strongly increasing (Rt = 1.3 (1.27-1.32) as of December 28, 2021 against Rt = 1.11 (1.08-1.13) as of December 20, 2021.

The intensive care occupancy rate rises to 15.4%

The report notes an increase in the employment rate in intensive care, which rose to 15.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as of January 6) against 12.9% (survey as of December 30). The highest figure is recorded in the autonomous province of Trento with an employment rate of 27.8%. This is followed by 23.9% of the Marche and 21.7% of Piedmont.

The employment rate of the medical areas is growing

The employment rate in medical areas at the national level grew to 21.6% (Ministry of Health daily survey as of January 6) against 17.1% (Ministry of Health daily survey as of December 30). The highest figure in Valle d’Aosta with 42.2 percent.
