Crime of Fontane, the trial returns to the Court of Appeal

The Cassation overturned the sentence of the Romanian Florin Stingaciu to 20 years: we return to court in Venice to reassess the aggravating circumstance of the futile reasons charged to the murderer

VILLORBA. The judges of the Cassation have overturned the sentence of the Court of Appeal of 20 years sentence against Florin Stingaciu, the 28-year-old Romanian accused of the murder of Igor Ojovanu, a 20-year-old Moldovan killed with a stab in the back on the evening of 30 September 2018, shortly after a bachelor party with friends. Two charges: voluntary murder aggravated by futile motives and attempted murder of Stefan Lungu, a friend and compatriot of the victim.

The annulment of the sentence concerns the aggravating circumstance of the futile reasons. What does this mean? That the process returns to the Court of Appeal and, if the aggravating circumstance that had been equated with extenuating circumstances falls, the sentence could go down to a minimum of 13 years and 4 months. A point this favorable to the defense, represented by the lawyer Mauro Serpico.

Stingaciu, arrested by the carabinieri shortly after the crime, he has been locked up in prison for almost 4 yearsthe. On the evening of 30 September 2018 Ojovanu was in Fontane di Villorba with a group of friends, all of Moldovan origin, to celebrate a bachelor party in an apartment in Largo Molino. A somewhat noisy party, but the worst had happened outside, when the group of Moldovans had started a furious quarrel, which later degenerated, with Florin Stingaciu and others. Stingaciu had come down from his apartment armed with a knife together with Rubin Xhika (acquitted on appeal), then the attack, with several people involved and conflicting testimonies on what really happened. The epilogue had been the death of Igor Ojovanu.
