Caltagirone (Catania) – The glorious and evergreen Crusader shield will start again from Caltagirone, where in the autumn we return to the polls. And it could not be otherwise, face that in the city of Don Luigi Sturzo to weave the canvas between the nostalgic and the new Christian Democrats 2.0 there is always him: the former governor Totò Cuffaro. For years he has been at home in Calatino, as he spends weekends on his estate in San Michele di Ganzaria. And it is precisely in Casale Santa Ida, among rows of grapes and prickly pears, that Cuffaro has developed the strategy to restore the new DC to its ancient splendor in Caltagirone.
«For our movement – explains Cuffaro, who is in the phase of full physical recovery after having contracted Covid – the city of Caltagirone has a particular significance, because it deeply embodies the Sturzian thought of the commitment of Catholics in politics. In recent months, despite the narrowness caused by the pandemic, we have registered many adhesions, by those who militated in the DC, of young people who intend to approach politics for the first time, of municipal councilors in office and exponents of the world of professions. A ferment that will allow us to present our symbol to the administrative offices in the autumn, with the aim of reaching consensus with double-digit percentages ».
It is useless to deny that the result that the New Dc of Cuffaro will achieve will not go unnoticed in Rome and especially in Palermo, where rumors about the creation of a very strong moderate and centrist area are increasingly insistent, able to compete in the next regional ones also by proposing its own candidate for the coveted seat of Palazzo d ‘ Orleans. “The signal that will come out of Caltagirone, as well as from the other 6 municipalities of the island where the proportional will be voted – confirms the former president – will certainly be picked up throughout the country. We are working to restore a political home to that 50% of people who no longer go to vote, starting from the territories and electing subjects who are able to speak and above all to listen to the needs of the people, and then bring them back to the institutions. The New DC, Cuffaro concludes, “will work with its exponents to restore value and centrality to Caltagirone and to the whole Calatino area, which once, not too far away, was a regional reference in the field of craftsmanship, trade, health and agriculture ». On the organizational front, in the coming weeks secretaries will be designated in many municipalities, who will have the task of leading the party at the start of membership and in a phase following the congress.
