The cyclist who was involved in a serious accident with a truck on the expressway in Maldegem on Tuesday has died.
A serious accident occurred between a truck and a cyclist on Tuesday afternoon at the intersection with Vakebuurtstraat in Maldegem. The cyclist had a serious fall and was taken to the AZ Sint-Jan in Bruges. The victim, a man, fought for his life for two days, but died from his injuries on Thursday.

“The exact circumstances of the accident are still being investigated,” police said. “A traffic expert from the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office came to the scene, made observations and will look at all elements of the accident.”
The Aalter/Maldegem police zone also called for witnesses to the accident to get the most accurate picture of the situation. “We have received some positive responses,” police said. “We can now map it further.”
