David Alonso recovers after a crash and makes a spectacular comeback in the Spanish Grand Prix

Colombian rider David Alonso (CFMoto) experienced an exciting challenge in the Spanish Moto3 Grand Prix this weekend. Despite suffering a crash on the first lap, when he was leading the race thanks to his Pole on Saturday, he managed an amazing comeback from 26th place to reach 11th place at the end of the competition.

The victory at the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit was in the hands of the Dutchman Collin Veijer (Husqvarna), followed by the Spaniards David Muñoz (KTM) and Iván Ortolá (KTM), who completed the podium.

The incident occurred at Turn 13 during the first lap, leaving Alonso in a disadvantaged position at the back of the pack. However, the 18-year-old driver demonstrated his determination by recovering and moving up the standings, climbing 15 positions to 11th place as he crossed the finish line.

Despite his impressive performance, Alonso failed to overtake Spaniard Dani Holgado (GasGas), who remained in seventh position and retained the lead of the Moto3 World Championship with 74 points. Alonso’s unfortunate incident left him with 68 points, six less than Holgado, who would have lost the leading position should Alonso win the race.

Alonso expressed his confusion after the accident: «I don’t know very well what happened, I don’t know why I fell. “The bike in front of me closed in a way that I didn’t expect.” Despite the disappointment, the pilot was resilient and optimistic: «It’s hard, but it will help us for the future. You have to accept it. At that moment I thought that there was still a lot of racing left and I recovered the bike to see how far I could go.

Alonso’s next test will be at the French Grand Prix, at the Bugatti Circuit, Le Mans, from May 10 to 12, where he will seek to continue his rise in the Moto3 World Championship standings.
