JUDGMENT
The legal process against Jesús Manuel MM has taken a significant step, since the Judge in charge has accepted the accusatory opinion presented by the Prosecutor’s Office and has issued an order calling for trial against him for alleged co-authorship of aggravated robbery.

This case dates back to the afternoon of February 28, 2024, when a violent event shook the 24 de Mayo neighborhood in Riobamba. Using violence, the suspects stabbed the victim multiple times to steal her belongings, subsequently fleeing the scene.
The quick action of the attacked citizen, who alerted the authorities, led to the prompt capture of Jesús Manuel MM in flagrante delicto, at the intersection of Monseñor Leónidas Proaño Avenue and Lizarzaburu Street. The Prosecutor’s Office presented a solid argument supported by various elements of evidence, including testimonies from the victims who identified Jesús Manuel MM as one of the aggressors, medical-legal expert reports that corroborate the severity of the injuries suffered by the victim, as well as evidence of recognition of the scene of the incident. The crime of aggravated robbery, typified in article 189, second paragraph, numeral 2, of the Comprehensive Organic Penal Code (COIP), carries a custodial sentence of five to seven years. Furthermore, in this case, the Prosecutor’s Office considers the aggravating circumstance established in article 47, paragraph 5, of the same legal body, which indicates the participation of two or more people in the offense.
The ratification of the preventive detention order against Jesús Manuel MM reinforces the commitment of the authorities to guarantee citizen security and the application of justice in Riobamba.
