Investigations into an alleged murder attempt in Dresden have taken a surprising turn. According to police and public prosecutors, the alleged victim, a 25-year-old man, tied himself to a bed frame in November 2023 and set the mattress on fire.
Wrongly suspected people released again
When the fire spread, the man and his bed frame fled to the balcony of the apartment in Dresden. He told rescue workers that his ex-girlfriend wanted to kill him.
The 19-year-old woman was arrested on the day of the crime and has since been released from custody. On the other hand, her ex-boyfriend was arrested. He is being investigated for false suspicion and particularly serious arson. There is also the accusation of deprivation of liberty because the woman was taken into custody through no fault of her own because of his deliberately untruthful statements.
The man does not comment on the motive for the crime
Investigators said nothing about the man’s possible motives. The detainee did not comment on the allegations, they said. During the investigation, the officers noticed contradictions that led to a completely different picture of the alleged events than the man had originally claimed.
