Enilce López, ‘La Gata’, who was convicted of paramilitarism, died

Enilce López Romero was a betting businesswoman who became one of the main chance operators on the Colombian Caribbean Coast. Her company, GanaGana, operated in more than 20 departments in the country.

On the morning of this January 14, it was confirmed that alias ‘La Gata’, as she was nicknamed, died due to a terminal illness that she had suffered for several years. Romero was in prison serving a 37-year sentence for links to paramilitarism on the Caribbean Coast and money laundering.

In March 2023, a Barranquilla judge ordered his conditional release. The decision was based on the fact that López Romero suffered from a terminal illness.
