The mayor of San Diego issued an evacuation warning for residents of communities that have just experienced severe flooding and for historically flood-prone areas ahead of Thursday and Friday’s forecast storm in the region.
“I want to be very clear, this is not an evacuation order, this warning is voluntary and is designed to encourage residents of these flood-prone communities to prepare if they do need to evacuate,” the mayor said. Sandieguino, this Wednesday.
Residents of such affected areas are advised to gather important documentation and items and ensure they have a plan to evacuate family, pets and if flooding occurs.
The San Diego City Council set up a temporary shelter at the municipal gym in Balboa Park, and according to the mayor, transportation will be provided for those who need it.
“We are going to have extra security and rescue personnel in these communities, and if a mandatory evacuation declaration is issued, police officers will go door to door,” added the mayor of San Diego.
Gloria also asked San Diego residents to clean up any debris from their surroundings that could clog the city’s sewers or drains, as well as secure trash containers with lids on and away from sidewalks so that they do not impede the passage of water.
According to information from the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Diego, there is a flood alert from the coastal areas to the deserts of San Diego from 6:00 a.m. on February 1 until 10:00 a.m. on February 2.
