Countess Giovanna Stringher Nicolis di Robilant, 87, died on Monday at the hospital in Udine due to a sudden worsening of her health conditions. For several years she was regional president of tourist guides and also held the role of national vice president.

Known and esteemed throughout Friuli, Giovanna Stringher, born in Rome on September 24, 1934, had just turned 87. He lived in Poggio Stringher, a splendid hill on the road leading to Moruzzo, dominated by a country house rebuilt in the early twentieth century and surrounded by centuries-old trees.

Grandson of Bonaldo Stringher, one of the most illustrious Friulians, parliamentarian, minister, but above all a great economist, general manager and then first governor of the Bank of Italy for almost thirty years, she was the daughter of Bonaldo junior and Magda Thomson. Lived between Rome, Venice and New York, in 1958 she married Federico Nicolis di Robilant, who died in 1968 in a tragic car accident.

In the 1960s, Giovanna Stringher Nicolis di Robilant moved with her husband and children to Friuli, where, for several years, she took care of the Del Poggio farm, which was sold after the earthquake by her grandfather Bonaldo Stringher. In the last forty years the countess decided to dedicate herself body and soul to her passion: art, in all its forms. He founded the Friul Guide brand and worked for over forty years as a tour guide. «My mother – says her son Alberto – worked until February 2020, just before the start of the pandemic. I remember that she was interviewed on TV on the occasion of the international day of tourist guides.

It was a mother present. She was left alone with three children to raise and always worked hard. As long as he could, he never stopped cultivating his friendships and interests. Countess Stringher Nicolis di Robilant leaves her children Alberto, Massimiliano and Lodovico, her niece Ginevra and her sister Bona. The other sister, Flaminia, passed away a few years ago. The funeral will be celebrated this afternoon, at 3.30 pm, in the parish church of Martignacco.
