Defense Minister Pistorius visits Poland. (Kay Nietfeld/dpa)
Pistorius said after talks with his counterpart Kosiniak-Kamysz in Warsaw that he was looking forward to deepening cooperation. At the same time, he distanced himself from statements made by the SPD parliamentary group leader Mützenich. He had spoken of freezing the war in Ukraine. Pistorius said such a step would ultimately only help Russian President Putin.
Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that Poland was not considering sending its own soldiers to Ukraine. Nevertheless, French President Macron’s suggestion is correct. One should not get used to the war in Ukraine as normal.
Poland is a key ally of Kiev and a hub for Western military aid.
