Boechout –
A fire broke out in a warehouse in Boechout on Friday. The spreading fire is accompanied by heavy smoke development. The fire brigade asks to avoid the area.
The fire in Kapelleveldstraat in Boechout broke out around 8:30 am. “It concerns a fire that broke out in a shed behind a house,” confirms Boechout mayor Koen T’Sijen (PRO Boechout-Vremde). “The warehouse contained cars and oil-containing products.”
The fire is gradually under control, but not yet completely extinguished. The smoke has not completely subsided yet. “There are no casualties at the moment. The fire brigade also rescued a dog from the fire,” said T’Sijen. (Read more below the photo)
Because the fire was accompanied by heavy smoke development, the police closed the N10, the Provinciesteenweg. Traffic must detour locally via the Lispersteenweg.
It is still unclear how the fire could have started. There may be asbestos-containing roof tiles on the roof of the warehouse, but it is not yet known whether asbestos was actually released during the fire.
